About Us
Growing up in Creswell, North Carolina, I spent my summer weekends with family and friends on North Carolina’s Outer Banks (OBX), on and in both the Albemarle Sound, and Scuppernong River developing a love of life on the water at a young age enjoying swimming, boating, and fishing.
I continued this love of the sea during a 30 year career in the U.S. Coast Guard that saw our family assigned in various locations around the nation and took me on adventures overseas. During those tours of duty in other coastal areas, I was able to experience all kinds of watersports. I enjoyed surfing OBX beaches along Highway 12 from Nags Head to Ocracoke Island, fishing from the surf of Cape Hatteras to the back country tributaries of the Cooper River in Charleston, SC, and white water rafting and kayaking on the Trinity River in Northern California.
I became a “Cutterman” while serving aboard three Coast Guard Cutters in our Nation’s oldest continuous seagoing service. Being a sailor gave me the opportunity to travel and spend time in various ports of call and at beautiful beaches all along the East Coast, the Caribbean, and even Africa where I enjoyed learning about different cultures and traditions, enjoying local cuisines and beverages.
One summer night while sitting on a front porch with my wife in 2021 the idea of Carolina Coastie was born. Carolina Coastie stemmed from the vision of bringing my love of the Coast Guard and life at sea and on the water to fun apparel for all “Coasties,” their friends and family, and anyone who’s had any connection to the Service (or not!).
